Hello All

 

This may have been asked before but I can't find it anywhere. Thanks to all you lovely people and your help I've finally got my head around group policy and how it all works I have two test GPO's that's are ready for the students and staff accounts in September. So thankyou!

 

Although I can't seem to find anywhere of which I can make my Domain Controller automatically set-up everyone their own unique H drive or home drive if you will. This allows them to store their documents and other files on he schools file server. Does anyone know of a script or policy or anything that depending on the username imported into AD will give people their own H Drive????

 

Oh by the way since I'm here talking about this I found a piece of software the other day made by Tonido called Filecloud it's very cheap I got them down to £1500 per year looks really good go check it out. Will be putting it on my file server so people can access files from any device anywhere in the world.

Under AD Users and computers, right click on a user and go to the profile tab. there's an option along the lines of set user home directory. Pick a drive letter and type \\SERVER\SHARE\%USERNAME% that will create a folder with the user's username in that share and assign permissions and map the drive when logging on.

 

You should be able to select all and do en mass.

Also if you right click on a user in AD and select copy it will create a home folder in the root directory of the person you have copied with the new persons username and appropriate perms.

Ok so I tried what you guys suggested with a test account and told the H: drive to go to \\SCDC\D$\Test\%USERNAME% and it hasn't made the test account a folder or put a drive mapping to it? Any Ideas? Would really help thankyou!!

Permissions ok on your share?

 

Or are you sure the machine your logging on to hasn't already got a H: drive. Maybe a card reader. Come across that sometimes. Look in disk management or try U: drive instead?

I've never tried it with a hidden share before so maybe it's that. Try sharing the test folder directly and have it as \\SCDC\Test\%USERNAME%

Yep that seems to have sorted it I made it a public share and it works fine thankyou bladedanny . Though I have that up and running I have now lost pupil and staff shared drives as they were added this way how can I add them to each user also?

I add my shared drives either using a logon .bat file and net use x: \\server\share or with 2008r2 and win7 you can use group policy preferences to map drives on an OU level.
