So basically, they want the ISPs to shout about the work they're doing and lie about the terminology used so that the government can lie about actually doing something... Nicely done.

It really makes me scratch my head that there already a huge amount of free options that 'concerned' parents can use, not included the very capable free Microsoft and Apple options there are. Why not simply publicise these and save everyone a fortune?

That's not good enough for the Daily Mail. They'd say that the companies are shirking their responsibility and telling people to sort it out themselves...

If my kids electrocute themselves in my house is it the suppliers fault?

Depends, were the electrical items in a "Default-On" configuration when purchased?

Maybe I've been reading too many conspiracy theories, but given this whole NSA/PRISM/Snowden insight we're currently getting, doesn't anybody else feel this "enforced filtering" gives the gov't the perfect excuse to monitor our internet traffic?

"Of course we have files detailing every website every PC in the UK has ever connected to - it's so we can stop the kids seeing boobs!"

It only stops the people who don't have the technical expertise to avoid said filtering. How good are the kids at your school at trying to get round your filters? How well do you think an ISP level filter will hold up in comparison. One major factor I can think of is that at least in a school there is central control over the clients (BYOD aside). Also on an related note, I see the VPN providers are doing really well these days for some reason..

My worry is that once the infrastructure is in place, it's only one more step to have the filter permanently on. Yeah there'll be ways around it, but what it will mean is that we become a country with state controlled Internet. Little by little, it seems all our freedoms are being taken away and it's always done in the guise of "protecting" us.

Don't get me wrong, I know we still have a lot more freedom in this country than in countless others, but it feels like we're heading the wrong way where that's concerned.
