August Update Without SQL

I'm considering installing the August update without doing the SQL upgrade, as I can't risk killing the db 2 days before term starts, but would like to use Office 2007 with SIMS.

 

Does anyone know if this is possible, or am I mad?!

Well you can do the upgrade without upgrading the DB, as for office 2007 working i'm not sure.

 

The upgrade and switch to SQL 2005 are two seperate processes, upgrade first, then use the database to 2005 tool that comes down with it.

 

So you shouldn't have a problem. we're waiting till friday before the db upgrade

 

Even if it bricks it you've got backups right?

I finished the upgrade to the August release and the SQL 2005 Express yesterday.

 

No real problems..

 

Just remember...

 

1. The August upgrade is seperate to the switch to SQL2005.

 

2. The provided SQL2005 Express install (if your going from MSDE to SQL2005 Express) will install itself as a completely new installation and should not affect your MSDE install - so if issues do happen you should be fine to go back to the MSDE install.

So I just run SOLUS for the August update and then worry about the db upgrade later, right?

however ther is a patch to the august update as well, so make sure they run in the right order.....

We've done the August update & patch and updated all our clients to .Net version 2 in readiness for the upgrade to SQL 2005 but we're going to get the LEA to come in and do that so that if it then ballses up the DB it's their problem

As far as I am aware Office 2007 is not supported as it uses a different XML format from Office 2003.

 

Am running August Upgrade with SQL 2000, will do the upgrade when the SQL 2005 software turns up.

According to Capita, both the August and September releases will run on both MS SQL 2000 and 2005. You have to have to upgraded the SQL server by the end of October in readiness for the November main release which will be SQL 2005 only.

Thanks everyone - the August release is now on (although it did take me four hours and have to be run twice!), and I'll do the db upgrade at a later, less crazy time.
