Maximum concurrent connections in XP Pro?

Hi chaps (and chapettes),

 

I want to dump our copy of mailgate onto an XP Pro machine and use it as a proxy. My question, is there a cap to how many concurrent connections you can have in XP Pro? NT used to have a 10 limit...so if there are 300 kids all trying to go through that proxy, will it work?

 

If not, whats the best open source *nix equivalent?

As far as I'm aware XP Pro only accepts 10 concurrent connections...

 

Looks like your going to need a server OS for what your planning to do..

It's 10 concurrent connections for File sharing and Printing (Windows networking basically).

Additionally, as of XP SP2 there is a TCP/IP connection limit on incomplete outbound connections.

Thanks guys, basically I want it to proxy to our exernal filtering company. So it is a webproxy I guess, when the kids go on the internet it proxies through to this company and then out to the big world (less some porn).

Would this be classed as 'windows networking' per se?

A Linux box running Squid or Windows 2k3 running ISA will do what you want.

You can increase the number of connection in xp. I dont know what needs to be changed in ms registry but if you do a search in google for xp anti spy, this little registry changer gives you the option to do just that.
