Only to new subscribers... for now.

If you are already on a package that includes games then you are fine. But it doesn't bode well. I only really stay with Lovefilm over Netflix because of the games.

er no... :(

Update #2: Lovefilm will end its game rental service - for existing customers as well as new customers - any time before the 8th August, a Lovefilm customer support agent told me on the phone this morning.

Reading between the lines, I'd say those reasons are bullhooks.

Reality will almost certainly be "because the future for rental games is dimming rapidly, and with online connectivity, accounst being required etc, it's becoming near unworkable".

Time to switch to BlockBuster

Don't get your hopes up with Blockbuster - we used them for nearly a year and the wait times for discs were sometimes very poor.

We waited more than 6 months for something that was at the top of our queue, and eventually cancelled without ever seeing it. They never gave us a proper explaination, citing only that 'some popular titles may entail a short wait'. I told them that if there was a 6+ month wait for Star Trek - Deep Space 9, Series 2 Disc 1 then perhaps they should consider buying more than 1 copy of it, especially as they had clearly lost that copy. Unsurprisingly they didn't really have a response for that.

Thank you for your email

We can confirm that, with effect from 1 July 2013, games rental will no

longer be available to new customers signing up to our service in the

UK. Existing customers with a games package will be able to continue

renting games until further notice.

We will, of course, let you know of any changes to this.
