Halfmad Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Anyone ever had a wireless access point that simply won't stay live for long? I have 12 of them, only tried 5 so far but all of those don't work. The signal is simply lost every couple of seconds regardless of what PC I use and what wireless card I'm connecting with. latest firmware revision, tried all channels 1-13 and even tried moving room. On my network and even setting up as a random named network doesn't help either. Netstumbler also shows the access point simply vanishing for a second at a time 8O 1 out of 12 would be find, but every one so far?
kearton Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Are you 100% sure it's not what you're connecting with? Or an incompatability with it and 3Com? e.g. I've had certain Intel chipset based wireless drop off consistently from Linksys kit, yet it worked fine with Netgear...
Halfmad Posted August 24, 2007 Author Posted August 24, 2007 Yeah that was one of my initial thoughts so I took one home, PC, laptop and even my Wii wouldn't connect to it - same problem. In the school I've tried it on 3 different models of Dell laptop and with 3 different wireless desktop PCI cards. perhaps there's a common chip manufacturer in there but doubt it. The thing is the drop seem to almost be in time with the contant on/off of the WAN light on the access points!
bishopsgarthstockton Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 are they power over ethernet? are all 12 doing the same?
tech_guy Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 We had a silmilar thing with SMC Waps and Toshiba 1400-153E laptops - got rid of it by tweaking the MTU size.
