Hi,

 

I have heard of Edmodo but are there any other types of technology out there?

 

We are looking to interact online internationally and would like to explore all the options.

Google apps has an option for using Google+ within the domain.

The advantage is that its a 'real world' social networking site and can be centrally controlled.

The disadvantage is that there is an age restriction to 13 years.

 

Mahara could be an option (also free) and I understand that it integrates quite well with moodle

Could also look into Yammer but having used both, Edmodo is more school-centric in terms of features.

We use Yammer for various staff groups across the group of sponsored academies and schools.

 

My previous school used Edmodo for interacting with students instead of buying a VLE.
