MS Licensing and School 3

We have about 870 MS desktop licences, and I'd be a much happier bunny if I knew just what we can do with them.

 

I'd been led to believe that we bought them from RM and that they're perpetual and for Win 7 Pro. Some time ago I asked my then NM about putting Win 7 Enterprise on staff laptops so that we can implement bitlocker. After some days of research he came to the view that the answer was Yes.

 

Having my doubts (now that it's my responsibility) I obtained a consumption report from our usual vendor of almost-everything and MS say the licence type is SCHOOL 3.

 

Anyone know what this means?

if your on an MS EES licence, it usually covers you for all the latest products (both server and workstation platforms), our EES here has all versions available from XP to 8 Enterprise and all versions of server and office.

although your agreement may be different to an EES one, which you would probably be better off rolling over to eventually if your still under contract - Microsoft School Enrollment: Academic discounts for education institutions

Well, we're currently looking at OVS, which I think is the same sort of thing. I think my question was really 'what is SCHOOL 3'. I don't think we're on EES but don't know how I'd find out.
