Ok - I have MDT 2012 installed and running on Server 2012. I now want to start playing with the MDT Database side of things. Installed SQLExpress 2012 on the same server and then went back to MDT and tried to create a Database.

I get

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The Server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider : Named Pipes Provider, error:40- Could not open a connection to SQL Server)."

Now I have made sure I used the default instance name (sqlexpress). SQL is configured for remote connections and I enabled Named Pipes.

I can connect to the SQL server instance using Management Studio.

Anyone know what I have missed?

My stupidity I think. SQL browser wasnt running.

Also I thought I didnt have to put the sql instance name in as it states "optional" in MDT. Once I put it in its working.

Thanks for your help though.
