New work desktop PC

I just popped up to the nice people at CCL to buy myself a new desktop for work. The old one was a Core Duo that had seen me well for many a year but it struggled on videos and flash was a bit juddery so I bit the bullet and bought a new MB/CPU and memory. I already had a SSD hard drive and the PSU is quite new.

I usually buy cheaper stuff, I usually buy i3 for the classrooms now with 4Gb ram but I decided to stop giving Intel cash and plumpted for the FX-6100 and 8Gb of sexy corsair Ram. Very speedy PC now, you want to see candy cruch fly. Not bad for £200 too.

 

I have no idea why I am sharing this, I just am happy to be flying again after years of plodding.

The processor is registering 7.3, the memory 7.7on the ratings bit on W7.... Graphics is dragging it down to 4.5

Yeah for some reason I too always seemed to upgrade my own machine last. It is nice to have something speedy.

I went for an i5, used to be AMD all the way but the Intels just run so cool lately.

To be fair I've not tried an AMD for a while...

 

Is that graphics on the board/cpu/

Its a PCI-X16 card but prob only cost a few quid. Might grab myself a copy of Half Life and see how she goes.

We struggled along with creaking old machines for a long while, full of guilt that we would even consider spending money on ourselves before our users.

 

Then suddenly (whisper it) there was some money left over in the budget last year, so we all gone done ourselves an upgrade. Core i5-2400, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD and 500GB HDD. I think these machines have paid for themselves in the time they've saved us since then. You have to remember that it's not just you waiting on your PC, a lot of the time it's someone else stood in your office asking for help.

 

Brethren, I tell you, throw off the shackles of your Core 2 Duos! You too can enjoy good computing without guilt, for are we not users also?
