Public Exchange Calendar

Hi Folks,

 

Hoping someone can help. Basically in our school we have quite a few calendars floating around, include a spreadsheet and a google calendar, and also an exchange calendar.

 

I was wondering if it was possible to have an exchange calendar that can be publically seen, without users having to login, where I can embed it onto the school website, This way we could get rid of the google calendar and the spreadsheet.

We looked at doing something similar and although I suspect it is technically possible, it is in no way easy. We ended up using Google Calendar in the end.

 

A common (flawed) response we got was to use the calendar publishing in Outlook, but that only works for personal calendars, not shared Exchange calendars.

I'm fairly sure this can be done. Setup an AD account for the calendar you want to setup, for example "School Calendar" and change the rights to the calendar for that mailbox using Exchange Management Shell to give those that need it edit rights (or better still full rights, as if you're using Exchange 2010 sp1 it will automaticall appear in their Outlook). Give everyone read rights to the calendar, and then publish it as you would with a normal personal Calendar.

 

We also use a Sharepoint webpart from a company called Bamboo Solutions which will pull through any calendar from Exchange.

 

We use a complex model of Exchange Calendars which integrates 4 calendars for events around the school (Trips, Exams, Staffing & Events), 4 calendars for departments (IT, Operations, Facilities & Catering) and Room calendars for all bookable spaces in the School. Calendars are then managed by owners of the 4 events calendars using meeting requests which include rooms and the correct department.

 

Each department can see a calendar which includes all events relevant to them, all events can be seen in each events calendar (or combined view) and calendars of room bookings can be seen across the School.

Thanks for the replies. We use public calendars for a vairety of stuff including room bookings etc, but we ideally would like to put our internal school calendar online. I have made a public calendar and tried but it required you to authenticate, and we don't want that
