Scifigirl Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 Anyone know where I can get a couple of these?? Two of our laptops have a CMOS reset issue and has been traced to these, and apart from losing the data when the battery gives out, that's all that's wrong with them? Any help would be appreciated!
difinity Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Have you checked the voltage of the CMOS battery ? 1
Scifigirl Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 Apparently doesn't have one-- these are made to be hotswappable for batteries-- well that's what im told.
difinity Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 I'm trying to think of a motherboard i have seen in the past 10+ years that didn't have a battery to keep the BIOS settings and i can't think of one. If you're thinking of replacing the motherboard you'll need to strip one down first. Have look, I'll be very surprised if there isn't a battery somewhere on the motherboard.
Scifigirl Posted June 6, 2013 Author Posted June 6, 2013 We have had our tech services department "crack" them open, apparently on this one its not the battery that keeps the settings its part of the motherboard, according to them the batteries are fine. we need to replace the motherboards but they are saying they cant get parts, just wondered if anyone else had any ideas
speckled Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I had this exact problem with over 250 of these, you may be able to run a car over them but all you need to do is remove the battery with the laptop turned on to render it useless. Its a known fault with these laptops, they fixed later revisions of the RM mobile one device but never came up with a fix for existing ones, its bad news, we have to make sure that when changing the battery you have to have it mains powered. 1
