Evening all

I need an updated Nova Satalite setup and since we use Solus3 obviously the setups directory doesn't get updated any more so mines from 2011.

Can I just download the latest Spring Update ISO and copy the setups files across that it contains or am I better going with the SIMS installable ISO and copying the setups folder across from that (or am I supposed to use the File server upgrade thingy)?

Never had to update from an ISO before, all because Options won't work properly without BDE and Solus3 doesn't install it!

Yeah, i don't see why you don't just take the update ISO. No need for installable, plus you have to request it. So long as you take the updates that are for the version you are on, which if you're on 2011, you'll probably need at least Spring 12 or earlier. Usually they cover the last couple of releases back. You don't really want any gaps.

Saying that, if you use SOLUS 3, you don't need an up to date folder, as the files you'll be missing will be the interim database upgrades. In fact, you could just load the ISO and copy the files elsewhere or take out the couple of files you need.

Solus3 is working fine most of the time, so the setups aren't needed for running upgrades, it's only for the installation of the necessary missing bits such as BDE that I need it and don't want to screw anything up by using an out of date Infrastructure or Nova Setup file. (It's also a pain since they are still necessary you'd like to think Solus3 would include it, or since it knows where the SIMS file server is it could also update the setups folder for you)

Summer 2011 was the last Solus 2 upgrade I did, so just wasn't sure if I could use the latest update ISO to overwrite the setup file I've got. Thanks @vikpaw :)

I think you could jump to summer 12, but it would be safer to go to spring 12, then autumn 12 to be sure you get everything. For all that hassle, you might as well just request the installable, and that way get a clean install folder.

i'm pretty sure that the update ISOs don't update all the files you need. Basically SOLUS 2 won't always update all the installers like satellite / simsinst.exe etc. So the installable is probably the best bet. I am on SOLUS 2 but usually use the ISO as it's quicker and easier and have found myself with an out of date satellites / simsinst. There were a couple of threads recently about those files too.

Will request the ISO in the morning then.

Just out of interest, after getting it, do I just copy and paste to overwrite the setups folder or is there some magic to updating it (sorry for the dumbd question!)

Normally I would run it. But in your case you should be able to explore the CD or ISO and copy the setups folder over. I would rename the old one and back it up and just replace with the new one.

Assuming you're running the same level of SIMS I.e spring 13 then it's fine otherwise say in a week or two also apply the summer update ISO or just copy the setups folder over to keep it up to date.

You probably don't need to and I'm describing overkill but might as well in case you ever sack SOLUS 3

Thanks Vik, I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. :) I suppose I'll need to get a hold of it anyway at some point in order to migrate to SQL 2012 and refresh the server.

Touch wood Solus 3 worked almost perfectly on the last upgrade after total collapse on the previous one, so hopefully we're over the worst of oour implementation now.... (and that's it cursed to hell now)

Thanks again! :)

Seems overkill just to get the newest Nova Satellite setup. I thought that you could now request the Nova Satellite Setup installer via a SOLUS3 package?

Edit: My bad, it's not implemented yet:

This is expected behaviour, at present SOLUS 3 will not update or deploy NovaSatellite.exe as part of the SIMS package during a SOLUS 3 deployment. There are plans to include this in a future release

Customers who require the latest NovaSatellite.exe are advised to contact Distribution for a CD which will be available to be sent out. Or, alternatively customers can log a case quoting this KB number and a URL can be supplied.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.

Yeah, the channel for Nova is in Solus 3, there's just nothing there.

Don't suppose you could give me that KB number @Rawns?

KB113008 - NovaSatelliteSetup.exe not updated by SOLUS 3 found under Solution Search on SupportNet.

Will SOLUS 3 do a clean install of server?

That should be the solution for putting on 2012.

Yes it will. You will still need to install SQL server manually though, and then get SOLUS3 up and running on the new server, but once that is done, hit the button in SOLUS3 and all SIMS server components will be installed on the new server. After that, just attach your databases and restore your DOCSTORAGE folder.

And it will do the necessary with the DB? I was thinking there was some structural change which the migration tool will do. just wondering if solus3 can migrate, i guess it's not that advanced.

Can Solus3 install the Document Management Server then? I thought that was another bit of the software it knew about but doesn't do anything with, but could be wrong....
