Meru controller & AP on routed link

This is my setup:

 

Meru wireless controller<->switch1<------->switch2<->AP

 

switch1 & switch 2 are Catalyst 3750 layer 3 switches.

The AP communicates with the controller via layer 2.

The controller associate the ssid with the DHCP IP addresses from the switch

 

The link between switch 1 and switch 2 is currently a trunk and if I change that link to a routed link. Will the communication between the AP and the controller still work?

Not familiar with Meru, but with other vendors you would need to tell the APs across the routed link what the IP of the controller is, either statically, via a DHCP option or with DNS.

Posting just because I don't like slightly unaswered questions to hang.

 

If by routed you mean that the switch port the AP is connected to is then associated with a different subnet/vlan to the port the controller is connected to, and that an ip route exists through the two switches....

 

The answer is yes that works. You need to ensure layer 3 discovery is enabled in the meru system (I think it is by default, but don't quote me) and you need to make sure the wireless controller has the appropriate DNS entries. The documentation on the meru support site is quite good in this regard.But to emphasise Mark's response: If in doubt, talk to support.
