Im trying to get this to work and not having much luck.

Ive tried to follow the online video on smoothwalls tv channel on youtube but the GUI looks completely different.

I have tried the following:

Added a custom category in...

Guardian >> Policy objects >> User Defined

Name: Youtube-Header

Clicked Advanced - Add Headers to Override: *add x-youtube-edu-filter: {my youtube education string}*

Click Save

Added a new policy in:

Guardian >> Content Modification >> Manage Policies

1. Who - Yr7-11 Students

2. What - Youtube

3. Where - Everywhere

4. Action - Apply - Youtube-Header

Click Confirm

What do i do now? Am i on the right track? Has anyone got a quick how to on what i need to do please?

Thanks

Am i right in thinking that the youtube user ID is needed?

Is there any documents on how to get this setup from scratch? I might have the wrong account setup on youtube. I just dont know!!

Youtube is available however students can watch what they want.

How do i know if ive got a youtube for schools account rather than a standard youtube account

Its working now, thats what i needed to do, create a school account on top of a general youtube account.

EDIT: Youtube defaults to youtube.com/education however if a student searches for minecraft it brings up all the minecraft videos and can view them.

Surely thats not right is it? I would have thought youtube would block all videos and you tell it what to allow?

Interesting, if I try and view a minecraft video I get "This video is unavailable with the Education Filter enabled. To view this video, the site network administrator will need to add it to a playlist".

Are you inspecting HTTPS traffic? The header can't be added to a request that's encrypted if you're not inspecting.

Ah, ill need to add youtube to the HTTPS inspection then? So if i have the following:

Who: Everyone

What: YouTube

Where: Everywhere

When: Always

Action: Decrypt and inspect

Policy Enabled

Hopefully that should work.

EDIT: That still works.

I noticed the message Warning - To decrypt and inspect web content, users' browsers must have the Guardian CA certificate imported into their certificate store.

How would i get the certificate to BYOD devices?

Ah, BYOD.

There's a simpler solution (thanks @CJF).

Paste the regex below into a custom category under 'URL Patterns' and block it for everyone you don't want to have unfettered access to youtube.

Thanks but what about my original problem with getting youtube.com/education to work only in school as im having a problem where the students can get to youtube.com/education but then searching for minecraft displays the searches and shows the videos.

I can confirm that students cannot see the comments as i have enforced the removal of comments however they are still able to see all videos

These would appear to be videos google has vetted and allowed with the header in place.

Try this video (It's one of our training videos).

This should get blocked. If it doesn't there's a problem.

Most of the results you're seeing related to minecraft are from a user who does computer game development tutorials.

Let me know how you get on.

Ah yes it does :) :) :) maybe like you said im choosing videos that should be filtered but arent.

@timbo343 give me the url of a minecraft vid that is playing and I'll if it gets blocked here.

As for the minecraft stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOW4_V5R3qc

Is there a way to filter videos in youtube. Ive search tasteless and played some random videos and also search porn. It blocked one video however played a video why porn isnt as good for you as something else - i cant remember the video title

Sorry, try this:

Indeed, not an educational video in and of itself.

His channel is part of youtube education though, not much we can do about that right now I'm afraid, Google decide what goes in and what doesn't.

Looks like your header is functioning as intended though.

There's a sticky here with some information on it that might be useful.
