Shared save area permissions?

We currently have an area where students can save to "The student save area"

This has always been a temporary area where students save to, then the teacher gets the work and deletes it.

Well it was but it seems to be a bit more permanent now.

The problem is at the moment as students have rights to save stuff there they also have the right to delete it and others work.

Is there a creative way of using file permissions so that users cannot delete each others work but can their own?

When you setup permissions you select a group or user. For this select Creator Owner i think its call then it will let you manage the permissions on the files the users is owner of.

I have meddled with creator owner with disappointing results!

Allow DELETE for CREATOR OWNER, make sure ALLOW is not set anywhere else. I think if you explicitly DENY deleting on any security group it will override the CREATOR OWNERS ALLOW. So long as the other security groups don't have delete rights only the creator of the document should be able to delete it.

Might want to look into student dropbox folders. It's basically a share with permissions set in such a manner that it makes it a blind-put. Kids can save to it, but are denied read and list to prevent them from opening other students' completed work. Teachers on the other hand have RW to the folder so they can clear it out. In addition there is a common area where kids have read so they can get assignments. I made a script for creating these folders in bulk that I use at the beginning of the year.
