sdc Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Hi everyone I need to extend HDMI over a single CAT5 cable, which is already in the wall. (It's only a cable distance of about 10-15 metres.) The Panasonic TV and DVD/HDD player will talk to each other over the HDMI allowing the TV to control the DVD/HDD via the Viera Link control, and I would like to retain this functionality over the CAT5 adaptation. I know there are a range of HDMI-over-single-CAT5 devices to choose from, but I wondered if anyone knows of one that allows the control data to be passed back in this way? If all else fails, I know I can obtain one that will at least pass the infrared remote control signals back, but this isn't quite the level of integration I was hoping for. Many thanks Stephen
sdc Posted May 14, 2013 Author Posted May 14, 2013 Just an update, if anyone's able to provide experience of such equipment, the HDMI extender needs to be able to carry the CEC signal (Consumer Electroincs Control). Unconfirmed reports online seem to indicate it's possible. My search continues...
Chris_ Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 We were looking at the Magenta HD-One HDMI/cat5e kit. It's not the cheapest but it works over a single piece of cat5e. It also carries RS232 which is a bonus! HD-One LX | Magenta Research 1
Kingstech Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 We have got a hdmi over cat5 extender that was installed in April. Will find the make of it tomorrow and let you know. It's brilliant piece of kit. 1
