I never went to uni (started working at 16) and it is annoying that people who do these Micky Mouse degree's are on the face of it more likely to get a job against me. A lot of places don't care what your degree is in as long as you have one.

To be fair that is true because if you have a degree you have proved you have certain skills such as researching, time management, reporting, dedication etc. Shouldn't matter what you do it in as long as it is graded similarly to other degrees. The only time it will matter is if you are entering a certain field, so building a bridge without an engineering degree may be a bit of a stretch.

Having now read the article (!!) the chairman of the Campaign for Real Education doesn't seem to understand education. Just because you do a degree in something doesn't mean you will go on to only be the core of that job. Art degree students don't all go on to be painters, journalism degree students don't all go to work in TV and news papers. I can't see any difference between this and any other music degree apart from it will relate to a different section. Jobs for students with this degree could be from music production, tour logistics, studio management and so on and so on.

It isn't a degree. It's a foundation degree - equivalent to the old HND.

 

I wish that having any sort of degree gets you a job above those that don't but I don't think that is entirely true anymore.
