...I think I have found the easiest form of wireless security : MAC Filtering

 

If a MAC address ain't defined in the wireless settings, it ain't gonna see the network or even the access point. But if it is, it can connect to the network without any messing around with long keys and such!

I know what you mean but it is a pain in the arse to add new Mac addresses. There should be something in Windows Server that only allows domain members to connect up.

I'm surprised Geoff hasn't jumped in yet to point out how easy to circumvent MAC filtering is. You only need to sniff one packet and you can spoof a MAC address.

 

MAC filtering is only really any good for secondary protection or to make sure that certain clients connect to certain APs.

Yep, by all means secure by MAC addresses. But a) traffic isn't encrypted; and b) as pointed out, it is surprisingly easy for someone to spoof.

Easier, maybe, but it’s a BIG step back. As has been mentioned it’s such a flawed "security" mechanism. I certainly wouldn't be forgetting WPA anytime soon.
