Gmail app on mobile devices - smoothwall

Is there a way to unblock / allow the gmail app through the smoothwall as we are starting to roll out staff and student wifi.

 

I have looked at the real time logs and see my device IP but there is no URL with the entry. Is this a common problem.

If there is no URL this is because of SNI issues. The app doesn't support transparent interception of HTTPS traffic. You'll have to turn off HTTPS interception on your transparent authentication interface.
