TV Repairs?

Our main display screen has just gone caput, was working one minute, next day nothing at all. Checked fuse and probably a power supply inside that has gone as its on alot of the time. Anyone know someone who will

a) give me free quote to see if its worth a repair and

b) will accept a PO as payment! Struggling at the moment, we are based in Doncaster, South Yorkshire if that helps!

 

Tried a few and they either want silly money just to look at it then more for the repair or will do it but dont accept PO as payment.

 

Can see me having to buy a new one at this rate.

We get this issue too, it is worth having a look inside the screen yourself. Chances are that a capacitor has blown and to be honest if you can use a soldering iron you can replace it without too many issues at all. Inside a screen there isnt much so finding a faulty component is relatively easy.

We had a 46" Samsung screen that went downhill, literally took £1.39 for replacement capacitors and 30 mins and it was able to be fixed.

I do this quite often (repair faulty TV's bought on ebay - my own home screen (36" full HD Hitachi LCD) cost 99p and needed a 25 quid replacement part).

 

Pop it open, check for any bulging or leaked capacitors and replace. Check the internal fuse (obvious) with a multimeter.

Could well be a transformer, in which case an almost certain and easiest fix will be a replacement power board from ebay or similar. Can generally get them for under 30 quid if there's any available.

yes if a capacitor has blown chances are the top will be rounded as it has bulged.

just compare to other capacitors on the MB to see which ones are different.
