Hello,

Just tried to load SIMS on my server to do the Spring update via SOLUS 2 and SIMS wont load.... I am receiving this error:

SIMS errror.jpg

This is SO annoying - I used to have a very stable/clean SIMS server and the only thing which has changed is the installation of SOLUS 3.

I dont suppose anyone has any ideas? (I have tried rebooting)

Many thanks

It looks like a Windows problem from what you've told me (off forum). "very stable" most positive thing I've heard said about Vista\Windows Server 2008 (r1), shame Capita didn't official support R2 back when you installed the server.. Keep me update mate.

Can you recreate and hit More Details. That might shed some more light. Google says it's the client side caching extension, or could be it can't show the real error because that file is missing.

In more details it simply says:

at SIMS.UserInterfaces.MainContainer..ctor(ParameterlessDelegate splashScreenClose, String autoStartMenuItemPath)

at SIMS.UserInterfaces.DefaultEntryPoint.Main(String[] commandLineArguments)

Thanks

Couple of things. You don't need to open SIMS to do an update.

If you're installed SOLUS3 i don't think you can use SOLUS2 any more.

In order to fix SIMS not opening, can you try reinstalling, it might fix whatever has gone awry, including the windows part if it's .net framework related.

Interesting, started seeing a very similar issue in a school, a Windows 7 workstation though:

pm @matt40k he had some insight on this one, but it's odd to get that on a workstation.

@Rawns issue looks different, more of a permission-e problem. Would say remote in and see what other funky things are installed - after trying "run-as administrator"

Forgot to update. Solved: Our old friend UAC was enabled on the workstation. Turned it off and SIMS works like a dream (nightmare?).

You leave UAC alone, I like UAC and yes, I know now annoying it is!!

You may like it, but SIMS in most cases thinks it's very uncool!!!!

SIMS works ok with UAC on, so does FMS. (Note OK, not perfect)

@CAM - very true, or not actively maintained software, nothing wrong with that program from the Win'95 era other then no one love it since it was created.

Some stuff from the Win 95 era works better then modern equivalents. I do miss Program Manager though. :p
