BBC Bitesize fail IE9

Hi

 

I'm having problems with BBC bitesize web activities. We're trying to use the KS1 Maths activities in the classroom and in a maths club. When you choose an activity, it works - they're all flash based games. If you then go back to the main maths menu and select the same game again, nothing loads - there's just a blank space where the game should be. If you right click on it, you get the Flash Player context menu.

 

We're using ie9 across the school on Win7 Pro.

Affects all users (including me).

Tried clearing all internet browsing history.

Tried changing Flash global settings to block saving data to local machine.

We're using a mix of hardware: Dell E5500s, Samsung and HP Netbooks.

I've tried by-passing our filter and using a different filtering system (trialling Lightspeed atm).

I also had someone from County support try from their office and they had the same problem.

Seems to reset overnight - even without logging off (I left my machine running last night, logged on (but locked in a locked room )

It works on fine on Firefox - but we don't have any other browsers installed on pupil or staff machines (yet)

 

Any ideas?

if it helps i can confirm i get the same issue here ie9 (server 08r2) and thats internet via lln so i suspect bbc's code isnt quite right somewhere

Thanks - unfortunately it doesn't seem to be easy to get a response from the Beeb. If my testers missed something as basic and easy to replicate as this, they'd have some explaining to do...

 

Or I could just blame it on Microsoft...

Virtually nothing works here with IE10. We've introduced Chrome a little earlier than planned. Problem solved.

Works in Firefox - need to try Chrome. I've spent ages ridding our network of multiple browsers. Not because I have anything particular against them - don't use IE at home unless absolutely necessary - just because it's easier to only support one.

Unfortunately not

IE is such a dogs breakfast for compatibility we just use it for anything that chrome or FF can't handle.

I agree it is useless but what can we do when most users prefer it and are use to it. Why don't you download chrome as a portable app and then run it just for the bite size then delete when not in use?

I find that having multiple browsers installed on our system is actually a help rather than hindrance as long as they are managed properly. Having problems viewing a site? - just try Chrome (or different browser). Seems to cure 90% of internet related issues without me lifting a finger.

I think a change of (my) mindset is needed. One of my regular "fault" reports is "I can't log onto the register" and the reply is "Have you installed Chrome again?" and I then go and uninstall Chrome and make IE the default browser and the world is at peace again...

 

The biggest downside of the approach you suggest that I can see in our school is what to tell the kids - it seems like quite a lot to ask of the 4 year olds. I'll have a think over the weekend..
