Zoom7000 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Ever since I updated to Firefox 20 on my Mac (10.8.3) and the latest version of Flash Player, I've found any sites using flash videos to be extremely choppy if I switch tabs or pause and then play the video again. Not got the problem in Chrome or Safari so it leads me to believe its Firefox that is causing the issue and not Flash. Anyone else noticed the issue? Is there a settings fix in about:config?
unixman_again Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I experience exactly the same problem with Firefox running in Linux (Mandriva and Fedora). It doesn't happen with Opera, which uses the same flashplayer.so plugin, so is has to be a Firefox issue. I don't know how to fix it, not that I'm really worried as I use Opera as my main browser. I don't know how Chrome plays flash, but I don't think that it uses the flashplayer.so from your system.
Arthur Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 (edited) Have you tried the usual things? e.g. Create a new profile. Start Firefox in safe mode. Uninstall Flash Player using the uninstaller, then re-install. Disable or enable hardware acceleration in Flash Player. Use the HTML5 player on YouTube / Vimeo. Try a newer release channel (Beta, Aurora, Nightly). Alternatively you could wait until Mozilla release a version of Firefox that can actually make use of more than one processor core in your computer (c. 2015-2016). Edited April 21, 2013 by Arthur 1
Zoom7000 Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash with no luck. Not tried HTML5, but I'm assuming it'll be fine, although this doesn't fix the issues on non HTML5 sites. I've tried the latest Nightly (v23.x) - Exactly the same problem. I'll try new profile, safe mode and harware acceleration in the morning.
Roberto Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I'm seeing this in Firefox for Windows. Pretty sure it's a fox or flash issue if we're all seeing it on this range of installs 1
seawolf Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 The latest Flash patches have had some stability issues (http://www.joystiq.com/2013/04/24/unity-ending-flash-support/), this could be related.
