Recommend me some Speakers

I need a set of speakers (without sub woofer) to connect to a laptop so that I can provide a portable system for training sessions. Sometimes they want to do assemblies or meetings in the Gym where we have no installed projector or screen. So I have a portable projector and screen which works great but the current speakers I have are not loud enough and are starting to crackle when you turn the volume up or down (just getting old).

 

Something with a decent level of output would be good.

 

Any suggestions?

Plenty loud enough and not too big or heavy - certainly less cumbersome than a set of desktop speakers + sub + cables...

@j17sparky - I was hoping for something around £100 mark. The second link could well be a contender.

We've got one of those behringers. It's surprisingly good tbh (I'm a bit of an audiophile so wasn't holding out much hope with it being behringer).

 

Wouldn't go with any cheaper makes than that. If that's above your price range I'd look at desktop speakers by logitec etc. You could also see what Alesis have on offer, maybe a single active monitor.

I'd add to J17's endorsement. I've used a similar Behringer PA, a much larger one and one of their larger KW capable amps, and they have all been capable pieces of kit.

 

(I think I'd like to claim to be an Ex audiophile - despite currently looking very seriously for a used pair of Quad ESL-57's)

I'll certainly be looking at behringers. As long as the unit is portable and not too heavy.

We have always bought Creative Gigaworks T20 speakers for using in our school hall when we have to setup a laptop etc.

 

They are loud considering their size and can be purchased well below £100

Yes Creative Gigaworks T20 are Very good for the price of well under £100...I would give them a serious thought.

We use altec BXR1321 - they do have a subwoofer but are really portable and easy to connect. We use them for big assemblies and they are great.

Hehe they are

 

We have used them for whole school assemblies in the hall and sometimes at christmas....

 

They are crazy load for their size and have very nice bass

They are surprisingly good for the size , but all depends on the size of the room really.
