Windows 8 Marketplace, downloads stuck at pending - thanks ASUS

Just brought an ASUS Smart VIVO tab - it was really cheap - and it seems that ASUS's software ineptitude goes beyond the Android world.

 

Out of the box it ran dog slow and after three hours of updates it finally started to run at the expected speed. Yay, but no. Get into metro land and the marketplace would not download anything, stuck them all at pending.

 

Turns out ASUS's crumby image seems to have a corrupted update in it from the factory and you need to kill the Windows Update service, the windows store service and then the c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to get it running again.

 

Companies like ASUS are the reason MS had to make the Surface.

 

I know I never learn, I thought it would be slightly better than the Nexus 7

 

 

 

 

As a side note, others like the hp one are much better behaved, just at three times what I paid for the ASUS.

not had an issue with mine touch wood other than some sites like edugeek not working in metro ie (cant use on screen keyboard it pops up the immediately goes away and firefox and flash can cause issues with on screen keyboard and crash firefox
