Exchange 2010

Having a really weird issue, our school is a part of EMBC (kcom and Capita). We host our own exchange 2010 server, last night i restarted it after installing a roll.

 

I came in this morning and nobody can connect to exchange via outlook, as it keeps asking for the password. We're running Office 2007 on all pc's.

 

What's really weird is that on the XP ones at the top of the password request popup it says;

 

"Welcome back to remove.wy***.leicester.uk.com"

 

That's not even our school!!!! In an attempt to sort this out i added our internal domain as a proxy exception but i still get the same.

 

As it's happening on all clients i presume this is an issue with our server?

looking into this more;

 

it seems in everyones microsoft exchange proxy settings (connect using HTTP) for outlook it's set to this address. If i remove it and restart outlook it reappears.

 

any idea where to look for settings to auto config this?

Sounds like autodiscover might be mucked up somehow.

 

There is a hidden diagnostic tool in the system tray icon of Outlook when you have it open - hold down Ctrl on the keyboard when you right-click on it and select Test E-mail AutoConfiguration...

 

 

That might give you some clue as to what's happening. Specifically, if the resulting log references a server that isn't yours, the problem is with autoconfig. Strange that it was working before the update though. Which rollup was it you installed?

sorry it wasn't a roll up, it was a role! i removed windows backup and had to restart so it was completely unrelated to exchange.

 

Just done the diag test and the resulting URL's look correct.

Right i think i've sorted it, Outlook Anywhere was enabled in exchange and the above URL was entered in there. I didn't set this exchange server up so it could of been entered then.

 

When installing SP3 there was some roles and features missing, i'm wondering if these features would of enabled outlook anywhere to spring into action.

 

lastly the rpc client access didnt start up so the outlook clients couldn't get the new settings.
