Shortcuts to Dock from profile manager issue

Hi All,

 

Another day another question!

 

I cant seem to work out how to locate the applications i have installed on the clients to be added onto the dock Via profile manager as profile manager only sees the server and what is isntalled on the server, i cant load profile manager on the client as obviosuly it only sees the server which was something you could have got away with in WGM. Surely it cant be the case i will ahve to install all software on the server for it to be able to see the applications and allow allocation of shortcuts

This seemed to be the only way to get it work is install it on the server and load the shortcuts on the macs

So frustrating as Logic Pro alone is like a 56gb install, lol I have only allocated a 100gb portion to server hdd as I didn't think I would have to do this

the basic install of logic is only 2gb just dont install the additional packs

Ha ha that would be logical, sheesh man tis a Saturday, I shouldn't be thinking about work anyway lol

What you can do is go to profile manager via safari using your profile manager url on a machine that has logic installed. That way in dock settings when you browse through the applications folder logic will be there....

See I tried that but it would only see the server apps even on the client. I now this could be done as a get around when wgm was in full use

Sorry about that I swear Profile Manager had that functionality at one point. We are still using WGM to manage 10.8.3 clients including dock settings.

Another solution I found on apple support is to create an empty workflow as an application in Automator on your server and save that workflow as Logic Pro to the applications folder on the server. Just tested this with Logic Pro and it works!

Find, or create a small .app file. copy it, paste it, rename it and then put on the dock with profile manager. Prof Man just looks at the name and location. So make a logic.app in the same location as where it will be on the client machines.
