App Store problem

I'm running 10.6.8 on our MacBook and have two app store downloads that have failed and are now essentially stuck. The App store will show them as being paused, once I resume them they tend to redownload then get stuck on this screen

 

 

This is as far as they get. I've tried removing any local content by deleting com.apple.appstore amongst other similar folders, draggging the 'ghost' icons on the dock to the bin, terminating the storeagent and appstore processes manually...

 

I've done several (20+) installs and only reached this issue with the final device (thankfully), even having apparently deleted the apps locally to start again the issue persists...

 

Anyone else had this sort of experience?
