FN-GM Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Hello I am looking at getting a USB skype phone or head set to keep my skype conversations a little more private. What i want to do i plug the device in via USB and use that for skype only but i don’t want any other sound to come out of it such as music. I would like music to come out of the PC speakers. Is there a setting any place or is there software or something? Thanks PS: It also maybe used for MSN as well as Sype.
Joedetic Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 The USB ones show up as a separate sound device like the microphone in your webcam does. So you just set the system sound to come out of the main sound device that you are using already and tell skype and MSN to use the USB headset/handset.
FN-GM Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 i dont know nothing seems straight forward, i feel abit silly now lol. If i set the sound settings in Windows will that make that effective for all users? Thanks for your help
Joedetic Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Try it and see. I'm not entirely sure. If i were to guess I'd say adjusting the windows settings would be a system wide change. As for things like skype and MSN they would be a per user setting in the application data I would have thought.
FN-GM Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 i agree on the MSN & Skype settings. I dont have one handy so i can't test. I dont want to go out and buy one if it is not what i want you see.
Joedetic Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Well...you can always take it back if it's not what you need.
Norphy Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Assuming this skype phone just adds itself as another sound device, you can use the Skype options box to choose which device Skype uses as its inputs and outputs. http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/2393/skypeok3.th.jpg I have to do this as my X-Fi's mic port doesn't seem to work in Vista, therefore the microphone is plugged into the on-board sound device.
FN-GM Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 I have decided to go for the Skype phone that doesn’t require a pc, You connect it to Ethernet and login using the phone. That way I don’t have to have the PC on all the time and if I’m not logged on it will still work.
