Has anyone replaced a failing DMD chip in a DLP projector?

I have seen three NEC NP215 projectors start showing dead pixels recently and after research it looks like its down to the failing DMD chip.

NEC would replace them under their 3 year warranty but all three were just out.

In the mean time I will probably scrap the worst projector and keep it until I come across another donor projector to see how easy/difficult it is.

Yes have replaced them on projectors, some are fairly easy and others not worth the hassle.

If you're keen fingered then by all means give it a go, would save you a bundle but be careful, electronics etc.

Firstly I'd say bug them about the warranty and how you're just out and three of them are failing blah blah, you'd be surprised at customer service.
