Gaz Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 What can cause DNS records to change? I've had to change some DNS records manually because the forward DNS IP was to a different computer on the network.
Michael Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 To my knowledge nothing can change Forwarders. Do you have secure dynamic DNS updates enabled? This means only members of the domain can update DNS records, but still, this should not change Forwarders. I suppose the only theory I can think of is if you have two or more DCs that someone else made a change and it replicated through to your DC? Either that or possibly malware.
Gaz Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 Its certainly an odd one and its not the first time its happened. The first time it happened I thought nothing of it. We only have 1 DC. I've just checked Secure DNS updates and for the forward zone it was set to "Secure Only" but for the reverse its set to "Unsecure and Secure" Should they both be set to "Secure" ? The server gets scanned daily.
Michael Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Yes they should both be secure, but as I say it still shouldn't change the Forwarders. Just enable secure updates as a recommendation.
