Windows Media Player issue

We have some French software on our shared resources which consists of powerpoints with associated sound files. Every page has a speaker icon you click on to hear the sound.

Recently the sound has stopped working and I noticed that VLC player had taken over the sound files. I re-associated .wav files with windows media player and the powerpoint sound now works again. BUT when you click on the icon, a small windows media player window opens and the sound plays.

As you can imagine, this is really irritating for the teacher as they have to minimise it on every page. Can anyone tell me why it is doing this and how I can get the sound to play but stop the media player window opening?

I may be off-trqack but if the WMP window is from the classic version you can disable it in the VLC player settings.

Sorry, not sure what you mean. It isn't using VLC player- the software doesn't work with it which is why I have put media player back.

Have looked to see if I can disable the window but have been unable to find anything

Did you do this through 'Default Programs' in the Control Panel? i.e. Default Programs » Set Your Default Programs » Windows Media Player » Choose defaults for this program » check box next to WAV and click Save.

One thing you could try is to completely uninstall VLC, set Windows Media Player as the default for WAV's again, then re-install VLC but do not check the box for .WAV files.

Another idea would be to try making the association through the file types tab in the windows media player settings rather than through the Windows dialog.
