Hi All,

 

I am looking for an application which will allow me to log all my software discs and then allow me to search for a name, type or user to pull up their software.

 

So for example, i need to know who has an adobe Premier CS3 licence, i can search for Premier or Cs3 and bring up the records

 

Any ideas?

Spiceworks might do this. I know it will pull installed applications and licence info as part of its network inventory. If you can tie machines to owners accurately this might work - although not sure if it would be searchable in the way you want as I haven't tried to use it that way.

 

Otherwise, assuming you're talking 100s rather than 1000s of users, an Access database should be quite straightforward to put together.

Spice works kid of does what i want.

 

The other functionality I wanted to use which i should have said earlier is to give each one a ref number which links to a file in a cabinet containing the media. EG - i search for adobe acrobat writer 10 and it comes up with the record showing who has a license, where they are and what number ref the media is.

Every thing I can find online is for books or movies which doesn't really fit.

Maybe a simple access database will do or even an excel spreadsheet with the filters turned on..

I generally take advantage of the copyright exception which allows you to take one copy for archiving purposes (paraphrasing), so I can generally find the software when I need it to reinstall. I put the licence key in a txt file in the same folder. I'm not so organised with physical media Edited February 25, 2013 by jmak

You can look at Network Inventory Explorer Network Inventory Software for Windows: Audit and Track Network Computer Inventory (Hardware & Software) It allows to audit licenses and serial numbers as you said.
