2003 server on a 2008 domain

Good afternoon everyone,

 

I am after a little advice if you don't mind please, (please bear with me)

 

I have just spoken to PS Financials who are saying that I need full blown SQL Server 2008 R2 to run the finance program,

the current server is Windows Server 2008 R2 but is a shared server already running express instances for;

 

Sophos, FMS, SIMS, Backup Exec, Websense etc

 

And im not sure it will cope well with full blown SQL, I do have in my possession the old server but it ran out of warranty

around 6 months ago, it has a 2003 server licence on it so I could wipe it and reuse this for now (time is not on my side as thay are now arranging the install with speaking to me first).

 

Is there anything I need to be aware of if I connect the 2003 server to the current 2008 domain ??? obviously it wont need DNS, DHCP etc on it but just wondered if there is anything I need to be aware of.

 

All the single sites I have done before have only had 1 server so never needed to think about this before.

If you are using it as a member server, i don't see any problem with it as long you don't use it for anyhthing releated to Domain Controllers, Global Catalog etc. I would not recommend using Server 2003 SBS because that might cause issues.

Well That's what i know, but other members might add what i have missed.

Thanks for that Patrick but after doing the sums I think I am going to push them to buy a new server to run all SQL applications,

I had a quick flick through and its comes to around £2k for the licences, server, backup etc...
