Weird problem, that I assume is DNS related.

We name all our admin machines ADMINOFF_xx, recently they have been experiencing weird problems such as, not showing anything in my network places, popping up with duplicate name on the network etc.

 

Now, if I rename a machine to ADMINOFF_125665458 or ADMINOFF_23564 or any other random number it says duplicate name on the network, if I rename a machine to ADMIN_xx it renames fine and the machine works perfect.

 

If you carry out a netview for the domain no machines named ADMINOFF_xx show up even though they exist, these machines can still use SIMS.net and other mapped drives.

 

I am stumped I have cleared DNS Cache, scavenged for stale records etc but it makes no difference.

 

Any ideas?

Solved, turns out it was an Edimax print server causing it, it was called adminoff, renamed it and the problem was fixed.
