exabytes - learning and teaching conference - June 23rd Update

So as we edge ever closer to the inaugural Exabytes conference I thought I’d give you all a bit of an update on what we have going on and a couple of the Keynote speakers.

Remember, whilst the Exabytes conference is part of the Exa Foundation and in turn part of Exa Education, this event is open to ALL. It is just cheaper if you are an existing Exa customer. Having said that at £50 for non Exa customers it is not exactly expensive (certainly compared to any other conference we’ve seen). Although if you are an existing Exa customer it is even cheaper at £10.

First off, if you are not familiar with what Exabytes is here is a quick overview.

Exabytes is a teaching and learning with technology conference. It is a hands on conference with more than 25 workshops, panels and keynotes. It is a full day conference with drinks and lunch provided.

What it is NOT. An exhibition (like you’ve all visited dozens/hundreds of times), a sales event. There is not a single sales pitch (hidden or direct) by ANYONE, not even Exa. It is a teaching and learning conference. Run by experienced technology educators for educators.

Keynotes:

David Thomas.

First off David is a brilliant speaker, there is a reason he has been on so many talk shows around the world, including Oprah. David is a multiple world record holder for memory related feats. Now whilst that might not sound like the best speaker for an education conference, the way in which he explains how these REALLY simple techniques can be used by teachers in class rooms to see significant exam result improvement is.

A recent education talk he did completely sold out (for WAY more than our whole conference costs) in West Yorkshire (on a Saturday) to more than 700 teachers with less than three weeks’ notice that the event was on.

He is one of the most in demand speakers at the moment, and he is there for you at the conference, and is staying around for the full day to chat and help out. Do not miss out the chance to hear him and speak to him during the conference.

Tim Burnett

Tim works for BTL, one of the leading providers of design led assessment systems. BTL work with the likes of OCR, AQA, SQA, WJEC, British Council and so many other leading organisations. Now this might not sound like it would make for an interesting keynote, but you would be very wrong. Tim will explore the challenges of embracing technology in formal examinations and provide a glimpse into the future of Technology Enhanced Assessment, in a very interesting way. Because let’s face it, this is where everything has either gone or heading, so we need to be aware of this and the impact will have on everyone.

Tim like David is going to be around for the full day to chat and share experiences.

Presenters

As well as these brilliant key note speakers we also have the workshops running throughout the day in four different strands. With presenters such as our own teknoteacher Alan O’Donohoe, Christine Harvey, Jason Stanton, Les Pounder, Dave Ames, Katherine Childs, Sway Grantham, Dave Gibbs, Matt More, Chris Chaffey, Jamie Chadwick, Lorraine Underwood, Dan Aldred, Caron Downes, Paul Scott, Tim Blezeard, Steve Dale, Philip Nottingham, Jamie Edmondson, Andrew Wilkinson and Theo Keuchel to name but a few.

Workshops & Panels

They will be running interactive workshops and panels on GCSE Computer teaching the theory, Games with Scratch, KS1/2 Computing Curriculum, eSafety, Apps for literacy, Apps for formal assessment, introduction to Minecraft, Make Expo (Robots, Microbits, Code bugs), KS3/4 Computing, Learning Platforms, Raspberry Pi, Minecraft/Python, GCSE Computing Investigation, Animation/Video apps, Digital Leaders and honestly, SO much more.
