As BETT approaches we are noticing increasing numbers of posts where people have clearly been asked to recommend a product by a supplier; it happens every year sadly.

 

The income earned from our paid advertising and sponsors is what keeps this site free for everyone to benefit from.

 

Suppliers:

 

Please don’t embarrass your customers by asking them to do this. If they love your product they’ll say so of their own accord and as part of their normal posting. They won’t be happy when we contact them to say we know. And yes we do have some we are watching awhile to confirm our suspicions.

 

Please note that only sponsors may use the forums in a commercial capacity. This includes:

 

- Inviting members to contact you on or off the forum

- Listing company/contact details in your signature

- Contacting members, including by Private Message

- Asking members to recommend you

- Product recommendations

- Any sales type posts

- Quotes

- Market research

- Promoting your company's presence at BETT or any other trade show

- Event promotion whether free or not

A post-BETT reminder about suppliers asking members to post

A member has reported to us that a supplier is encouraging customers to post on EduGeek promoting their product.

 

We would like to remind all EduGeeks that this is against forum rules and that we will simply delete posts we suspect to be from this source regardless of how well known the member is on the forum.

 

We work hard to be a balanced forum and those members who have been with us a while will know that good products get talked about in threads (and the bad quite often get slated) in the natural course of conversation. Members are quick to notice and report an outbreak of posts plugging a product.

 

I would also remind any suppliers reading this that underhand advertising tactics have been called out publicly in the past by EduGeeks and do not enhance business reputation.
