Google Earth Pro: Now Free?

It seems that Google Earth Pro might be offered for free.

Downloading and installing Google Earth Pro adds a few features that are not available in the free version including the measurement of areas and perimeters of polygons that cannot be measured in the free version.

Update: I have registered using my school E-Mail address [which is shown in plain text as your username in the Google Pro 'about' screen] and downloaded and installed the Pro version:

I took a quick look at our site and I can see that a 3-D effect has been added to one of our newer blocks. This wasn't present the last time I looked in the free version (although that was a while ago)
