Outlook and Office 365 Web Email (syncing issues)

Hi all,

 

Some of our staff use Outlook 2010 in school and when at home they use http://portal.office.com or equivalent to sign into their emails using OWA.

 

We are noticing a number of staff complain about emails not syncing correctly between Outlook 2010 and Office365. All emails show on Office365 (owa) in the inbox but on Outlook 2010 desktop application they can be missing several emails that do show on OWA.

 

Has anybody else experienced similar?

This sounds like a cache issue. How have you got your staff profiles setup in Outlook2010? Are they set to online or cached?

Microsoft are slowly removing support for old versions of outlook, they have not blocked access but have said things will slowly start to break so I wonder if those emails have a feature in common between them.

It may be worth getting a staff member to remove and recreate their outlook mail profile using control panel and see if that helps. Also I would ensure they have all the windows update (and have enabled updates for microsoft products as well as just the default windows ones)

Will we all just have to deploy Office 365 and keep it up to date?

I've seen similar behaviour in the past with random e-mails missing. Updating to Outlook 2016 resolves the issue.

My colleague has updated to Outlook 2016 but the issue persists, in doing so he also recreated his mail profile. Thanks for the tips none the less. Looks like we may have to push everyone towards OWA.

OWA makes perfect sense to be honest, as most of the functionality is there compared to the fat version of Outlook.

Unless staff have to access shared mailboxes, that's where outlook becomes a better client than using OWA.

Yes OWA is the direction I want to go in, I use that now and it meets all my needs, however there are a number of staff that utilise the 'mailto:' function in SIMS and this doesn't tie up with OWA - unless there is a way this can be achieved?
