Clever - Student MFA: A Realistic Path Forward

UK schools face a unique challenge: MFA mandates from CyberEssentials and NCSC amidst mobile bans and younger learners who struggle to type their password. But securing student identities doesn't have to mean choosing between safety and learning. You'll get clarity on what IASME, the NCSC, and the DfE 2030 standards mean for your classrooms — and a real-world picture of deviceless student MFA in action, across Google, Microsoft, and every age group. Join this session to learn how one school implemented deviceless MFA for students and how you can chart a realistic path to secure authentication.

If you have any quesations youy'd like to ask Clever, then please posty them below and we'll ask them for you at the end of todays session.
It promises to be a great talk, especially given the obligations Cyber Essentials places on schools, so don't miss out!

My question would be:

How do you deal with trends?

If (for example), a Pixar movie about pigs has just been released and 80% of students in a year choose "pig" as their second factor, I can't honestly say to an auditor that the year group has effective MFA.

Thanks Pete, I'll ask that for you. Anyone else have any questions?

I'd also comment that their marketing blurb around "our badges can't be forged" is disingenuous as they can be trivially (photocopy/photo) copied, removing the need for a more technical approach.

What (if any) countermeasures do they have if someone shows the photo of a badge on a phone, or a photocopy of a badge?  Is the login dialogue just looking for a valid QR code?  Or is it looking at the context / surroundings to see if anything's not right?

That's actually a very good question, it'll be interesting to see either how they have got around it, or what measures they might be working on to prevent this.

Third question if you're still reading this.  What audit trails are available if (for example) a teacher is helping a student with their assessed coursework?

@Pete We'll get that question to them for you. Apologies as we were well into the show and the page didn't let me know you had posted again.

Watched the presentation with great interest but have not been able to get a response from them. Tried a couple of times to enquire and sign up.  Do they have a representative on the forum?
