There are plenty of discussions within this forum with regard to how machines are setup to allow scripting, coding ,etc. With the GCSE Computing and this drivel from the government regarding getting kids coding they obviously needs the tools to do this.

In an ideal world, we give them the tools on the desktop for this, things like Python, Small Basic, Eclipse, etc, but we work in schools where for obvious reason, we keep things pretty much locked down. I'm sure many Network Managers have shuddered at the thought of giving Year 9's access to scripting tools. An example of this has happened here recently; we've given access to Python and some enterprising Year 11 wrote a script that causes the machine to shutdown. This was copied to a public folder, called it 'Minecraft' and a whole bunch of pupils saw this file and in typical honeypot fashion thinking this would help releave the bordom during class double clicked it and, well, you can guess what happens. I now hear you shouting; "Software Restriction GPO, stop them running it" - and yes, its something I've put into place.
