I've just ordered 4 new computers, due to serious failures in a few classes, and had an idea.

 

The new computers are licenced for Windows 7 Home Premium [sP1], but will actually be running Windows XP.

 

 

My idea was... rejiggle the licences around [Put the licence for the old machine on the new one] and then there'd be some decent Win7 lincences going spare. [which I may or may not have planned to aquire...]

 

 

Turns out, you can't do that. Even though we've paid for it, we can't use it how we see fit. [Move unused licences to machines that need them, thus saving us some monies.]

 

OEM licences aren't transferrable. [Or they won't support transferred licences...]

 

 

[censored] you, Micro$oft. If I have n licences sitting around on computers THAT DON'T WORK, I'm reusing them.

 

I'm not going to pay out for something I ALREADY HAVE, just because your £100Squillion profits "aren't enough".

 

 

God damn greedy companies.

Did they close the loophole where sending a piece of the old machine effectively transferred the OEM licence too? E-Bayers used to ship old components like the network card for free with the licence + disk but this was a long time ago back in the Win 2000 days. :)

That loophole nevr existed Cam, the loophole you are thinking is selling of new virgin OEM Licenses wtih a cable or something. OEM License have never been transferable from system to system in all the years I can remember.

I renember reading somewhere the license is to that board so if you transfer the mobo (if thats not the faulty part) you can transfer the license?

If you want to get into the topic of wasted licenses we have a few hundred of Vista the V that should not be named OS OEM licenses on machines running XP.......ok maybe not a waste then!

Oh God... So much this.

 

 

I think ALL of our computers are licenced for Fista. [bar the few licenced for Win7]

 

But, we can't use it... apparently I'd be personally liable for £1/4million...
