Sims/SQL/Server 2008

Both windows 2008 R2 and Server 2008 R2 are supported.

There are quite a few threads on here with regards reinstalling a sims server, you can just follow the same setup for installing a test server if that's what the thread mentions.

Some things to look out for, when you install SQL, take note of the warning about allowing / opening the ports on windows firewall, or whatever firewall you replace it with, you need to do this to enable comms.

If you can keep the same name as old server that will save you having to fiddle with mapped drives and the connect.ini

You can download ISO for new install from SupportNet to do a clean install, then run ISOs for the updates e.g. latest autumn 11 or whichever you want to get to. Then use dbattach to drop your backup on to it. If you do end up having a newer version installed it's okay, if you just run a dbupgrade and it will update it. A good time to upgrade if you were holding off ;)

Cheers for the reply I will give this a go.

Thanks
