File Associations

Libre office 3.4 appears to be changing the file association for word. Previous versions just left them as is.

 

fortunately and frankly, who knew it?!

 

There's a dos prog called assoc which you can easily alter associations with.

 

So adding a line in after libre office in our maintenance script to restore word.

(horribly after the fact comment, but whatever)

 

Office file associations can be reinstated by running winword.exe /r (or any officeApp.exe /r) to start the repair process, and you can run it across your domain with psExec... bumped into a similar problem after installing Office 2010, then uninstalling the 2003/7 converter which stripped out the new-style (*.docx etc.) associations. D'oh.
