Automatic Cisco Switch Backup
This will guide you through how to configure your Cisco switches to save and backup their configuration automatically. The backup occurs at 8pm every day and every time the running configuration is saved.
Setup a TFTP server
You will need to setup a TFTP server if you don't already have one. I use TFTP32 and install it as a service so it automatically launches when the server is booted.
Ensure your switch time is correctly set.
To ensure your switch is performing the backup to the correct schedule you need to ensure the time is correct on the switch.
Command to view the switch time
Show Clock
Command to set the switch to use an NTP server (Change to the IP of your preferred NTP server)
NTP Server 10.10.10.10
Command to set your switch to observe British day light saving.

Change the IP address to your TFTP server and copy and paste the below into your switch. This will perform the backup every day at 8pm and every time the configuration is saved. You can change the time if you wish.
