jonnykewell1 Posted November 13, 2010 Posted November 13, 2010 Hi i am looking at a friends laptop that is not working. All that happens when you press the power putting is you get a flash from the backlight on the screen and it doesn't do anything else. Iv tested the power cables and transforms and all are fine. The charging light for the battery shows as red which is normal when plugged in. I removed RAM etc and absolutly nothing. Anyone got any ideas as to what it is? Iv also stripped it down to the motherboard and had no signs of burn marks or damage. Thanks in advance Jonny
difinity Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 Have you got a spare CPU you can try ? The last laptop i encountered that powered on then off was down to a dead CPU.
Achandler Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) Do the fans fire up as soon as you turn it on? If you have just the board and you ahve tried it on an external monitor using the VGA port and get nothing, all it does is power on briefly then turn off again then either the CPU is gone as suggested above (or may just need reseating) or another component on the board isn't a happy camper, whcih may mean dead board and dead laptop. Edited November 16, 2010 by Achandler Spelling again!
