Hi i am looking at a friends laptop that is not working. All that happens when you press the power putting is you get a flash from the backlight on the screen and it doesn't do anything else. Iv tested the power cables and transforms and all are fine. The charging light for the battery shows as red which is normal when plugged in. I removed RAM etc and absolutly nothing. Anyone got any ideas as to what it is? Iv also stripped it down to the motherboard and had no signs of burn marks or damage.
Thanks in advance
Jonny

If you have just the board and you ahve tried it on an external monitor using the VGA port and get nothing, all it does is power on briefly then turn off again then either the CPU is gone as suggested above (or may just need reseating) or another component on the board isn't a happy camper, whcih may mean dead board and dead laptop.
