1. Thanks Martin. I have the account already created in AD. However it is syncing to @DomAin.onmicrosoft.com in O365, and I want it to sync to @DomAin.com Do you think I'd need to delete the account in AD recreate to force it to sync to @DomAin.com ?
2. I'm confident that the file is uploaded now, however the Chromebit is hanging at this screen. I'm not seeing any connections denied on our filtering, so am at a loss as to why it is hanging. I have contacted our ISP to see if there are any additional logs they can see that I can't, but I gave it a quick test over 4G from my phone and it hung too, which makes me wonder whether there is an error with the app.
3. I've just found that in the Chrome Sign Builder app there is a link on the left that takes me to the right page and allows the upload. After I rebooted the device it worked the first time, asked me to sign into the calendar page that I'm trying to display and then displayed the calendar. I gave the device a reboot to test that it worked properly, and now it says 'searching for network' and then the screen just goes blue. I'm able to then reboot it from the G-Suite admin console so it is definitely making a network connection. I just can't figure out why it only loaded the calendar once.
4. Exit Chrome Sign Builder on my own PC?
5. (I think) that I have that in place already, I just don't see the configure option. Is there something that I'm missing?
6. Thanks very much for this. I've taken a look at this a few times, and seem to have hit a brick wall. I have installed the app here: Device Management --> Chrome --> Apps and Extensions --> Kiosks I've set it to allow power management etc, and set it to auto-launch On my PC, I have installed the app, configured schedules and downloaded the config file. The problem is that I can't see where to upload it to. When the Chromebit is powered on, it launches the app but comes up with a message about no policy being configured. I can't see anywhere on the Kiosks page to upload the config file, and I'm not sure where to look. I've read 3-4 help guides but haven't found it either.
7. We had Office 365 set-up and syncing with AD on our old server. When we moved over to a new server and ran the sync tool on there, some accounts didn't sync properly. We are using the same domain and username format. There is a problem with one account that I'm not sure the best way to solve. This is account is an Office 365 admin account. the old account is there containing all of the users files, and their old sign in details (so is synced from the old server which is turned off) A new account was created in the format adusername[email protected] I'm thinking that the easiest thing to do is this: 1) Download all of their files. 2) remove admin rights 3) Delete the account Once I have done that, how can I force the sync tool to recreate the account in the correct format of [email protected] ? Or is there a better way of doing this full stop?
8. Ah that's a good point. I'll go with that :-D
9. Recently purchased a TV (with HDMI inputs) and soundbar (with optical audio input and also aux input) for a meeting room. The PC will primarily be used as a standalone PC, but occasionally also for presentations on the TV. With that in mind, I don't want the sound going through the TV and then into the soundbar, because that way when the TV is off no sound will play from the PC. I was thinking of this setup: Monitor connected to the PC using either VGA or DP, HDMI out from the PC going into a splitter like the one below, and then a HDMI from the splitter to the TV, and either AUX from the splitter to soundbar or Optical audio from the splitter to the soundbar. Any thoughts on this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extractor-Support-TOSLINK-Optical-1-HDMI-4K/dp/B06XFZXTYW/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=hdmi+to+aux&qid=1572290475&sr=8-5
10. I've just PM'd you
11. Thanks, that's a very helpful link you posted earlier. From reading it, would I be right in thinking that if we'd recently had an overnight power cut and the WLC had been powered off, and then come back on again without any issues, then we're alright? (Unless the certificate has exired in the meantime.) Edit: Just had more of a play with the WLC interface... Under Management --> HTTP-HTTPS I see the attached file. Does that mean we're good until February of 2022 before we hit any problems?
12. Thanks, yes we currently have 12.
13. What would be the easiest way to check how many licences we have available? In the web interface I have navigated to: Controller --> Inventory and see:

Maximum number of APs supported 15'

Does that indicate 15 licences? Just checked the data sheet and it says that they are sold with 5, 15, 25 or 50 licences. @AButters , if we do have the licences, then that would be warmly appreciated. Edit: Just looked further under: Management --> Software Activation --> Licences and I've attached a screenshot of what I see. To me, that confirms 15 permanent licences.
14. In our school we have a Cisco 2500 wireless controller, and about a dozen Cisco 1140 wireless access points. We need to add an extra one in a new buildiing, which has a data point installed on the roof, and can be easily patched to the same Cisco PoE switch as the other APs. The 1140s are getting quite old now, and 18 months down the line we might be looking at a total refresh. In the mean time we need wifi in the new building... albeit on a shoestring budget. I was looking at grabbing one of these from the 1140 series: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AIR-LAP1142N-Cisco-Controller-Based-Access/dp/B001PC8LR6/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me= And patching it into the Cisco PoE switch. Interested in people's thoughts about the idea, and about how much set-up work it might entail.
15. We have a Chromebit in our reception area attached to a tv, which displays a calendar during the school day with dates for parents of trips etc. At present, if it’s turned off over the holidays it means I need to use a bluetooth keyboard / mouse to log back into the device and then open the calendar. I’ve heard before that we could enable kiosk mode and have it boot straight to the calendar. This would be ideal as then the site manager can flick it on when he opens up, and it will save me a job. Does anyone know how to implement this? We use G-Suite, have paid for a management licence for the device, and see it registered in G-Suite. I’m happy to powerwash the device if it’s easier to start again fresh.
16. Looking to implement a G-Suite backup solution. A service that I've come across is spinbackup.com and am probably looking to go ahead with that as long as they're approved by our DPO. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with them? Or any other services that they would recommend. Only looking to backup 5 users, so looking at about £150 for the year for G-Suite.
17. Thanks for the suggestions of software for drawing a network map in my previous thread. I've had a first attempt, deciding to copy and paste pictures of the actual equipment, which might be unusual but I think will make my life easier. Would value any feedback about anything that is wrong / not the best way to do it, or any information that should be added.
18. Ah - thanks for that. The Cloud Key appears to be very good value for money. Would I also be correct in thinking that there's no annual licence fee for using their web platform to manage and configure?
19. Just asking out of curiosity, because networking is something that I'd like to learn more about. I'd be interested to hear anyone's views about the pros and cons of going for a wireless network that requires a dedicated controller, vs buying specific APs that do not need a dedicated controller. (I'm thinking that larger organisations you'd definitely go for the controller?) Thinking about a school with 8 classrooms, so probably talking no more than 12 APs in total. Would I also be right in thinking that some brands favour Wireless Controllers, as I see a lot of Cisco controllers for sale, but haven't seen any Unifi units listed as yet.
20. Thanks again for all of the responses. If anyone has got an example of a network map that they've created it'd be really helpful to see it - mostly in terms of how much detail to include. (Doesn't matter if it's totally out of date.)
21. Thanks all for your input. I'm going to go with draw.io for my draft for now, as I don't have Visio to hand and it's instantly accessible. I'll certainly bear Visio in mind once I've got my head around this a little more, and am interested to learn about The Dude also. Cheers
22. I'm looking to tidy up our cabinets (we have three) as I strongly suspect that there are switches in there that are not actually in use any more, other than that they are connecting to other switches, and also unpatch network points which have either been physically removed from the walls, or have been covered over. I think that my starting point is to really get to grips with what we have in place already, and get it drawn out clearly with everything labelled. At the moment, I have a table in a Word document that matches the cabinets with the type of equipment, model number etc. Does anyone have a better suggestion? And what about when it comes to mapping out which switches currently connect to each other?
23. Fantasic - thanks for the quick responses - we'll go with that also.
24. Renewing our OVS agreement and have been offered 1 year or 3 year deal. Inclined to take the 3yr as price is fixed. Is there any reason not to?
25. Looking to buy some Acer machines anyway, and was sent this: https://uk-promotions.acer.com/ Just wondering if anyone else has seen it, or applied for the cashback?
