Hi, I am sure this has come up before, but I couldn't see anything recent. Does anyone have recommendations of who may buy unused (box sealed OEM) toner cartridges (namely HP)? We exited a print contract a while back and some toners weren't needed. It's only CE251AC, CE253YC and 2 waste toner bottles, so nothing excessive.

Seemingly this is a lower functionality version and the department have written tutorials based on the desktop version.

Hi both, thanks for the replies. I tried chucking it in a public share but alas does not load, and I am not thrilled at the idea of it installing to local appdata on launch for each user! Repackaging into program files, if it even works doing that, seems like more hassle than its worth though. Quite surprising this is not more intuitive to distribute really.

@rush_tech: Did you find a way of working with this or did you concede it?

I have been asked to look at this by our IT dept and observe that there is no MSI for network install, so shared public folder was the next port of call. @mattgrimley: Have you still been running this successfully since your initial post in the way you described, especially after the later post by rush_tech?

This is with multiple applications, but not necessarily on one machine (I have seen it at random times over the last few months, but it's quite rare). Really baffled by it!

Hi, for a while we have had a number of machines randomly present with a "white banner" issue, whereby many Windows applications will load up with a banner covering the top part of the application, particularly the file/edit/view etc navbar. This isn't application specific, but with google chrome, I noticed if we put it to full screen (f11) and back to normal again, the white banner goes away. With Adobe reader for example, it looks like the below: Clicking in the banner loads up whatever window is behind, as if the banner is a "gap" in the application. Really baffling me as what causes it. Anyone got any suggestions?

Another company offered the same job for £50 less (including certificate). No issue paying for recycling but obviously you need to ensure it's reasonable value as it's public money.

Hi, I am currently in the process of fixing our damaged Roland E-09 keyboards (we had to wait a few months for the parts to arrive from Japan, but finally they came). One issue in particular is that the central LCD screen lights up all elements (i.e. a signal is received on each and every pixel) which therefore means no actual data can be determined from it. I have checked all the connections and they seem fine, and even when I test with a replacement screen we bought from Roland Japan, the same thing happens so I know the issue isn't with the screen. It would be easier if it didn't work at all as then I would assume it is faulty, but the actual LCD displays correctly for a fraction of a second after turning on before going in to this "activate all the screen" mode. Without wanting to dig too deep in looking at individual electronics on the board, is there a simple explanation for this (even considering on a general level for LCD screens)?

Yes, there is a recycling yard but only a fairly "basic" one and typically just the everyday household items. Thanks, they have quoted, though the cost is a little eye watering!

Done that, had no luck. I think we could get in a bit of bother if we left electronic waste sat outside the school gates in the hope it just disappears! Have managed to get rid of a washing machine at home that way, but under-counter stuff is generally collected without issue through our usual recycling channels. As I noted in my opening message, we are looking for a company to take them (i.e. a registered WEEE recycler) and are prepared to consider charges to do so. No suggestion of this being done any other way, hence why we still have them sat in our bin corner since Autumn!

It would seem that we are unable to get anyone to come and collect some full-height fridges (including a drinks fridge) as the cost of doing so is uneconomical. Despite the school considering paying for the service, we're still struggling to find anywhere that will take them. Anyone got recommendations for a company that may take them, even for a charge, in the north west region?

Chromebook won't get IP on WAPS connected to specific switch
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
It's always a bit frustrating when you don't actually come to understand exactly what the issue is (or was) as you can't put anything in place or prepare for if it happens again. Switches are not the kind of thing you need to reboot often (or generally, at all) and I tend to only update firmware if I have some free time or if I know we have an issue fixed by a later release. Still, thanks for the suggestions! -
Chromebook won't get IP on WAPS connected to specific switch
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Hi, we use Aruba, mostly 2530. The switch had been rebooted (one through choice, one without choice..) and hadn't helped, though I do keep the firmware updated semi-frequently (maybe once or twice a year), though the switch itself is fairly new and was only updated around Sep. However, I see there were 1 or 2 more recent firmware released so put the latest one on and it looks like the chromebooks get an IP now(!) I suspect the process of upgrading may have cleared something rather than "fixing" through the firmware itself being newer, though as the other firmware was fairly new, it wasn't an immediate thought. I guess if in doubt, do it anyway! -
Chromebook won't get IP on WAPS connected to specific switch
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in ChromeOS & Cloud Based OS
Hi, I know this is quite obscure, but has anyone seen anything like it? Another chromebook now doing the exact same thing when connecting to wifi via this switch. Only seems to be IP address over wifi that isn't retrieved and connecting via wired is fine. Really baffled as to what we can do to check this further or resolve. Would be crazy to take perfectly functional devices out of action just because they can't get an IP in one part of the school. -
Have recently encountered a very strange problem. One chromebook never seems to connect to wifi when in a certain part of the building (where the WAPs all route to the same switch), but move that device anywhere else in school (to a WAP on a different switch) and it connects straight away. As we have several 100 chromebooks in use now, no other device has this problem (even in the "problem" area). Really scratching my head over it. It's the "DHCP Lookup Failed" error but just this one device in wireless areas connecting to just 1 switch. What could possibly be the issue when the device works fine everywhere else and every other device works fine everywhere?

We recently acquired some non-interactive screens and are exploring the possibility of mating these with touchscreen displays on the teacher's desk, however not too sure about how we can offer the facility to annotate (i.e. over a webpage, doc etc). We have some epson interactive projectors too which has all this built in and works great without PC-end software, but we'd need something like the old smartboard tools to achieve this with a touchscreen display, ideally free but only as simple as annotating writing, no fancy stuff. Are there any suggestions or would some budget need allocating for an entry level commercial product?

We have a handful of ipad 2s that are just sat here now doing nothing (also 2012 era). The latest version they will take is progressively getting older and older compared to newer versions and although they're fully unlocked, we just have no use for them. I really do need to recycle them, just seems a shame to chuck perfectly functional tablet devices away.

We have quite a few fairly old(ish) Roland E-09 keyboards. Mostly they work fine, less a few top buttons (not keys) snapping and then not being usable. I am able to open the chassis to replace these (as well as fix the common LCD screen issue) but I am not easily locating a spare parts seller (for the buttons). If I can't, i'll have to try gluing the 2 bits together but this may not be a long term solution. Just wondered if anyone knows of a supplier who can source Roland spare parts?

Simple video stream capture software (not vlc)
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Thanks for the replies. I must say, it hadn't occurred that the Win10 camera app would work for this, especially as it's just for video stream only. Hopefully it doesn't indefinitely drop the feed at the slightest nudge of the USB connection. We do have a few IPEVO cameras too which are far superior and we use their own software for these, so the frustrations among those staff with the HUEs is quite well known. -
Hi, we have some very cheap Hue HD Cameras (cheap visualisers) but not the software that goes with it. I have setup a shortcut that directly connects to the the camera stream via vlc media player, though this can be very temperamental and loses the connection if the camera is nudged too much of disconnects momentarily. Are there are any simple recommended alternatives we could use that would allow connecting to a specific capture device within shortcut parameters so it's just a case of clicking the shortcut and it will do the rest? Only needs to capture the stream, nothing else, but ideally not completely disconnect if the stream signal is lost momentarily.

Fastrak: disclose allergy upon grab-bag preorder
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for the responses. If there is any mis-understanding as to what is legally expected or how this is handled, then it's best we sort this sooner than later, especially if it involves changes to existing processes. We can't be the only school with a grab-bag setup though, so surely if this is the case, others school must either be putting appropriate labels on items/bags already or be planning to do so? -
Fastrak: disclose allergy upon grab-bag preorder
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in How do you do....it?
Is it fair to say this isn't something many are considering right now? -
Our canteen manager has advised me that they need to provide the ability for students to specify/disclose if they have an allergy "at the point of ordering". At present, we use the biostore fastrak warning system built-in when the person orders at the till (with an operator) and this is then visible before the operator processes the purchase. However, it seems they require the ability for students to have to specify when they self-order on the grab-bag machine if they have allergies or not (as currently, that just prints a receipt with the items on). This seemingly relates to Natasha's law, coming in to force in October 2021. Firstly, is this understood correctly that we need to ensure anyone ordering self-sufficiently without an operator has to be able to specify (at each order) if they have allergies? If so, quite how do we go about that in a pre-ordering system that does not involve any human-to-human interaction? This is not a specific feature provided on the system. I even thought about changing one of the food option groups to an allergy yes/no/other group, but that may be a bit messy.

Freedom of Information Request
dgsmith replied to ITGURU's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Assume you're substituting the (00 44) with just "0" and not dialling "0044" first? The other posts make a fair point in that, while this request has to be treated and replied to appropriately, you don't necessarily have to browse to an external page/form to do so.
