Welcome to the new Smoothwall

I'm certain that the lists will be editable by admins as well so hopefully best of both worlds. -

I believe so - similar to custom categories. It is intended to unify this in the Smoothwall GUI, cloud or on-prem afaik. -

Hi supportman We have recently added a few KBs about cleaning up report results etc and reporting webinar sessions are always available if there are issues with creating reports that give the desired output. You can talk with your account manager to get one setup. Recent KB are these one here: https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003658579-Modifying-template-reports-Executive-user-summary https://kb.smoothwall.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003044019-Cleaning-up-reports-by-excluding-back-end-domains I don't agree that you need a degree in Linux or DNS. Knowledge of URLs, domains and how web pages work are good prerequisites for being able to interpret the report output and of course, playing around with the templates and looking at the different types of output that the various sections can generate is also helpful. A webinar would help a lot there. -

Excellent suggestion -
I used Zen for about 10 years for home use. They were very good and support was excellent. They were consistently voted one of the best ISPs and one thing I liked was whenever I had a support issue, I spoke to very knowledgeable people. I can only recommend them.

SMOOTHWALL: Forcing a RADIUS session to log out
ibpalle replied to machin05's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Good you found out how to do it. The RADIUS waits for a logout from the accounting I believe. It will time out after some time but otherwise it wait for RADIUS messages. -
Hi rob980 Give support a call or use the chat on kb.smoothwall.net. Once the new drive is in, it's a cli command to include the new drive in the broken mirror. Will take a little time before it's initiated but will stay functional - it may also be available as a command in the setup program that shows when you issue the command "setup" on the cli. Can't remember of the top of my head.

PBSA / Smoothwall / IP addressing woes

If clients are sending directly out you could source map the traffic to the IP you want using rules in the networking - configuration - source mat and LLB rules -
Smoothwall breaks RemoteApp access?
ibpalle replied to Sheridan's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
With RDS over HTTPS its very likely that certificate validation could be failing - in any case, lookup the address you are trying to connect to in the web filter logs to see if anything is getting blocked. If you find an address or domain request with a pink background, try to add that to a do not inspect policy in the https inspection section. -
Smoothwall has published an out-of-bounds blocklist today to all customers at 09:30 (UTC) which will include some additional search terms relating to the incidents that have unfolded in New Zealand overnight. These additional search terms will not prevent users from searching for information about the incident but will categorise searches for video footage as violence. We've been made aware that the attacker(s) live streamed the shootings, and we've already found a number of sites hosting this content which have now been categorised appropriately. We do not usually release out-of-bounds blocklist updates but given the nature of the incident, and the graphical contents of the video footage we've decided that it is necessary on this occasion.

Lightspeed Relay Vs Smoothwall Filtering
ibpalle replied to The_W's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
The problem with HTTPS inspection and certificate pinning or apps not using user installed CAs will likely take a long time to get resolved correctly. Apps that do not work with HTTPS inspection in place is a bother to be sure. One workaround will be to use the web service instead of the app, which generally does work. If the service needs to be used and HTTPS inspection is required, then that is currently the only method. Facebook has a web page WhatsApp does too - and since these are accessed using a browser, then generally, the HTTPS inspection will be implemented there. It's not an elegant workaround but it does give you the inspection required while maintaining the use of apps. -

Smoothwall Ucas site problems

May be an idea to try to serve the proxy.pac file from another location than the SmoothWall - at least we can see if the problem persists which could point to the SmoothWall and make us look twice. We have not had any massive amount of reports of this from other customers though but we wont rule anything out. -

You should have a look at this KB article. IE has a proxy caching mechanism that can be a bit annoying to troubleshoot at times: https://support.smoothwall.net/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=263 and https://support.smoothwall.net/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=16&nav=0 -
Smoothwall Ucas site problems
ibpalle replied to Jose's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi The proxy setting for the secure https should not be set to 442 - that is not a port the SmoothWall Filter is running on - that should be 800 like the rest. That it could work for https sites is likely that IE has decided that there is no proxy on that port and is going out directly. Also as Tom says, if this https site run on another port than the standard (does not look like it though) then that port needs to be added as an allowed port on the Guardian - proxy - web proxy page. You will need to expand the advanced section to see this setting. -
